Leta’s younger sister Ava decided to write a poem tonight. I am touched by how funny yet profound a 9 year old can be in her reflection of what it is like growing up with a special needs sister.
My Tiger Shark by Ava (9 years old)
Leta you are lovely and make me laugh,
but you have good aim with glass.
We have had our ups and down.
I love the good times but, when it’s the other way around
I hate to have made you frown.
One of our good times is when we are at the park,
And I’m with you listening to the dogs bark.
One of our not so well times is when someone makes you mad
Then you start acting like a Tiger Shark.
But I will always still love you
And I will never change my point of view.
You love everyone,
And you are my homerun.
I hope you love me, because if you do….
I love you too.
Lovely poetry, Ava! (Favorite line: “And you are my homerun.”) Also, very, very sophisticated rhyming for a 9-year-old! Seriously. The apple falls not far from the tree…:)
